The Logies – oh I’m sorry the TV Week Logies awards – are the most corrupt, most pointless organisation this side of FIFA. Worthiness is not a judging criteria the ability to buy votes is. Look no further than the top honor the “prestigious” Gold Logie. The most recent winner, Grant Denyer won simply because his show was cancelled. A point not lost on Tom Gleeson who as soon as he found out he was nominated quit his long running ABC show Hard Quizin an attempt to garner publicity.
This problem goes beyond the Gold however Channel Ten’s Carrie Bickmore is up for best Presenter despite not presenting anything in the last year as she was out on Maturity Leave.
But back to the Gold by looking at the winners of the last five years you begin to see a pattern they all had a “Worthy reason” for winning and a strong platform to share it. This is not a battle of talent or even hearts and minds but of marketing potential.
The more air time you get the better your chances of winning. One wonders weather Lisa McCune would have what it takes to buy her way to a Gold Statue today. But will I be watching yeah sure if only to see the dresses.
